We do not have a minimum age, but safety is our priority. If you are coming in with a child under the age of 14, they must be supervised at all times.

No! climbing is for all shapes and sizes! Please be aware that rental harnesses have a max waist circumference of 46 inches and autobelays have a weight restriction of 25 – 300 lbs.

Yes we do, once you have checked in, you will be required to have a gym orientation which will cover correct AutoBelay usage. You must pass an AutoBelay check and prove your competency before usage.

Here are a few of the best ways to bring kids to the gym and get them into indoor climbing:

  • Hire a GOAT Staff belay with a friend! This is a one hour guided climbing experience run by one of our professional staff, where your child and their friend(s) will experience all GOAT climbing has to offer and is a great introduction to indoor climbing.
  • Join Team Goat! Sign up for one of our youth programs
  • Arrange a private lesson for your child. Private lessons are facilitated by our professional coaching staff, they are one hour long, instructional, and fun!
  • Get involved in the climbing community and become belay certified. Take our Belay Class to learn how to secure a harness, tie a figure 8 follow through knot, and complete your safety checks. You’ll be able to belay your own kids, have the knowledge to come back in the future and maybe enjoy the sport yourself!
If you are bouldering, then no partner is needed, although we recommend a spotter.

AutoBelays! On our 40ft walls in zone 9, we have multiple autobelays with routes from 5.5 to 5.12+. (Competency check required before usage)

If you are planning on any roped climbing, you will need a partner, bring a friend or take a belay class to meet some new climbers!

Join our meetup group or have a chat with our front desk as we know our community and would be happy to recommend a trusted community member.

Enjoying climbing is all about comfort! We recommend whatever you’d wear in a yoga class or if you were to go for a bike ride.

Climbing in sneakers is not allowed, you must rent or own a pair of climbing shoes.

Entry to the facility, use of bouldering, AutoBelays and top ropes (after a belay class) and usage of our training facility on the second floor. Rentals are not included. Please note all purchases made with a credit card in person at Goat are subject to a 3% charge.

Yes! – We have an exclusive third floor for events! Which gives our birthdays, groups and scouting events a fully private space to enjoy themselves and have a great time!

We love hosting our local schools and organizations! Our exclusive third floor is purpose built for larger groups, with fun climbs, recreational space and two large rooms that open up to a big teaching space. We have a Schools curriculum designed to enhance your trip with learning objectives built in, alongside climbing, team building and of course fun!

Climbing FAQ

Bouldering:
Requiring neither a harness nor a rope, bouldering involves climbing routes that are close to the ground. A thick crash pad acts as a protective mat below you.

Bouldering is a great way to build skill because you can focus solely on using your strength and balance to keep yourself on the wall. Novices appreciate the simplicity of it; skilled climbers like the challenge of more difficult routes.

Top Rope Climbing:
This is where a novice enters the world of harness-and-rope climbing. When you’re top roping, the rope is secured to an overhead anchor in the gym. You tie into one end of the rope; the other end of the rope is held by a belayer, who manages the rope to catch you in case of a fall. The belayer might be a trained staff person, a friend with belay certification or an auto belay device.

Lead Climbing:
Once you’ve become a skilled top-rope climber, your next step is lead climbing. When lead climbing, you’ll tie into one end of the rope and clip it into a series of quickdraws that are already attached to bolts on the gym’s wall. Again, you’ll have a belayer. Lead climbing indoors is very much like sport climbing outside, except that indoors the quickdraws are already in place.

The challenge with lead climbing is that if you slip or miss the next quickdraw, you’ll fall a short distance back to the previous clipped–in point! This is the pinnacle of roped climbing and great fun to learn.

Belaying is the skill of managing and controlling the rope for your climbing partner. You do this by taking the slack rope out of the system by using the Petzl PBUS belay method, maintaining a safe position for the climber. When they are ready to come down, you lower them at a controlled, measured pace.

Classes are free for members and a small fee for non members.

We schedule classes throughout the week, book your belay class here

Please contact the gym and we will happily schedule one for you, or you can book your free test online here

Please be aware we test on both Tube style and Assisted braking style of device.

We recommend a Petzl Grigri, however you are allowed to use any tube style or assisted braking style belay device. We do test on both device styles.
